Judge John M. Alexander
Circuit
Judge
John M. Alexander was elected to the bench in 1996. He earned an undergraduate
degree from the University of Florida and a juris doctor from Ohio Northern
University. His past judicial assignments include criminal, civil, probate,
juvenile and domestic relations. The administrative judge for St. Johns County,
Judge Alexander currently presides in the unified family court at the Richard O.
Watson Judicial Center in St. Augustine.

Recipient William
Gladstone Award (2009) as the top Family Court Judge in the State of Florida for
outstanding contributions to the children of St. Johns County and the State of
Florida in Dependency Court.
Three-time recipient Distinguished Service Award, Florida Council on Crime and
Delinquency, Chapter 26, June 1998, 2000, 2005, 2009. (First three-time
recipient of this award by a Judge by Chapter 26 Council.)
Recipient of
Community Service Award by Character Counts of St. Johns County, October 23,
2008;
Recipient of LL Wainwright Award (2003) by The Florida Council on Crime and
Delinquency (Chapter 26) for outstanding contribution to the citizens of St.
Johns County.
Established St. Johns County Teen Court in conjunction with the St. Johns County
Clerk of Court (2001).
Recipient Florida Coalition Against Domestic Violence Distinguished Service
Award - one of only twenty-four judges within the state of Florida recognized
for their commitment to eliminating domestic violence, March, 1999.
Established Unified Family Court for St. Johns County in 1999. This created a
one-judge/one-family system coordinating Family, Dependency, Domestic Violence,
and Juvenile Delinquency Orders to prevent inconsistent rulings and orders.
