Brigadier General Michael P. Fleming is the Assistant
Adjutant General for the Florida Army National Guard. He began his military
service in 1974 as a United States Marine. After receiving three meritorious
promotions as an enlisted Marine, he was commissioned through the Enlisted
Commissioning Program in 1976. He served in various leadership positions in the
Marine Corps through the grade of Captain until his transfer to the Florida Army
National Guard in 1983.
General Fleming’s military assignments include Chief of Staff
and Deputy Chief of Staff Operations, Joint Forces Headquarters; Battalion and
Company Commands; Chief, Policy and Liaison; and Inspector General, National
Guard Bureau. He was a National Security Fellow at Harvard University and a
Congressional Fellow with the House Veterans Affairs Committee.
General Fleming’s awards include the Legion of Merit, the
Meritorious Service Medal, the Army Commendation Medal, the Army Achievement
Medal, the Florida Cross, the Florida Distinguished Service Medal, and a variety
of other awards, including the International Confederation of Reserve Officers
Competition Medal (France) and the Medal Militaire Lichamelijke Vaardigheid
(Netherlands).
General Fleming received a Master of Arts (with Distinction) in National
Security and Strategic Studies from the US Naval War College and a Master of
Business Administration from the University of North Florida. He has been
published by NATO
Review, The Journal of Homeland Security and
The Harvard University.
General Fleming was a member of the United States (CIOR) military
pentathlon teams in 1990-1994, 1997 and 2000. He resides in Saint Augustine,
Florida with his wife and two children.
